Asbestos was commonly used in building materials throughout much of the twentieth century due to its durability and heat resistant properties. When asbestos containing materials are disturbed, microscopic fibers may be released into the air and may pose potential health risks if inhaled.

Because asbestos cannot be reliably identified through visual inspection alone, laboratory analysis is required to determine whether a material contains asbestos.

Types of Asbestos Testing We Provide

  • Bulk material sampling is the most common type of asbestos testing. Small samples are collected from suspect building materials and analyzed by an accredited laboratory to determine whether asbestos fibers are present.

    These surveys typically involve:

    • Visual inspection of suspect materials
    • Bulk material sampling
    • Documentation of material locations
    • Laboratory analysis of samples
    • Professional reporting with findings and recommendations

    Many regulatory agencies require asbestos surveys before demolition or renovation work can begin.

  • Following asbestos abatement, clearance testing may be performed to verify that the work area is suitable for re-occupancy.

    Post-abatement clearance assessments may include:

    Air samples are typically analyzed using Phase Contrast Microscopy (PCM) to determine airborne fiber concentrations.
